The 3 Hour Rule Is Saving Marriages

The “three-hour night” rule can be a game-changer for relationships according to some experts. It’s something Rachel Higgins and her husband came up with when they wanted to create a new evening routine and the idea is to divide the night into three one-hour sections.

  • Hour one is a “productive hour” - This is for cleaning the kitchen, tackling the pile of bills, or finally doing the chore you’ve been avoiding.
  • Hour two is “relationship time” - Here’s where you put down the phones and focus on each other. It can be playing a game, going for a walk, catching up on the day, taking a shower together or anything else that helps you connect and strengthen your bond.
  • Hour three is “me time” - That’s right, you get an entire hour to do anything YOU want to do. Read, watch a show, play video games or just scroll TikTok guilt-free. This time is for whatever makes you happy and your partner gets to do the same.

While doing chores doesn’t exactly feel romantic, the three-hour rule is all about balance. Setting aside time to get stuff done, spend time focusing on your partner without technology getting in the way, and dedicating time just for yourself can help keep you grounded when life is chaotic. And it may be exactly what your relationship needs.
