Cop Takes Protect & Serve To Another Level

K-9 Officer Jonathan Cox of the Wyandotte, Michigan, Police Department, noticed elderly resident Dory Oliver struggling to mow her lawn. "I had to do a double take! She was balancing the mower with one hand while holding onto her walker with the other.

He pulled over to ask her what was going on. She told Officer Cox that she had been fined for the yard being so overgrown and she couldn't find anyone to help her despite contacting several companies, no one had called back.

Jonathan to told Dory to get back inside and sit in the AC. "I just told her I'd make sure it got handled today". He tried contacting some people to mow her lawn but just like her he struck out as well. So after his 12-hour shift, he returned and went to work mowing. The job turned out to be bigger than he’d estimated and involved, removing storm debris, and cleaning gutters. Over two days, Cox completely restored Oliver’s yard, leaving her feeling grateful and emotional.

Oliver called the police chief to express her appreciation and even brought donuts to the station. She says she’s still in awe that the officer, who didn’t know her, had helped out of pure kindness. Cox, an eight-year veteran of the force, says he feels blessed to be in a position to help others. Dory has begun calling Jonathan her “adopted grandson".

Jonathan says he'll continue to look for someone to mow her lawn but if he can't find one he'll handle it moving forward.
