9 Year Old Saves Her County Fair

KDKA-TV Pittsburgh reports that a 9 year old girl made a tremendous sacrifice to help save the Fayette County Fair. The fair desperately needed a new barn and had been fundraising for over a year. Yet they were still $27,000 short. If they couldn't come up with the money for a new barn soon next years animal competitions may be cancelled as the current barn is scheduled to be demolished next week.

Harper Diamond made a surprise announcement after winning the best pig competition. She wanted to sell Cookie, the blue ribbon hog she had raised, and would donate all proceeds from the sale of her 270-pound pig to help build a new barn.

Perhaps some of the adults were shamed by the youngster and her generosity and the bidding quickly escalated and ultimately the price per pound sold at $42.50 which is about 10x the normal amount. That means Cookie went for over 11 grand! That spurred on other donations as well and eventually the rest of the money was raised and next years fair was saved!
