A baby boy born last week now holds the record for the “oldest baby.” Lindsey and Tim Pierce welcomed their son, Thaddeus Daniel Pierce, on July 26th, and he was developed from an embryo that had been in storage for more than 30 years.
The proud parents, who live in London, Ohio, “adopted” the embryo from Linda Archerd, who created it way back in 1994. She was trying IVF to get pregnant with her husband at the time and they created four embryos, one which resulted in a baby girl, while the other three were kept in storage for over three decades. They were eventually listed with the Nightlife Christian Adoptions agency’s Open Hearts program, which Tim and Lindsey signed up for after trying to have a baby on their own for seven years.
The Pierces are now getting used to life with their newborn baby boy, who they say is “so chill.” If their story sounds more like sci-fi than reality to you, they get it. “We thought it was wild,” Lindsey says of finding the embryo. “We didn’t know they froze embryos that long ago.”
Thaddeus has broken the record for a baby born from the oldest embryo. That record was previously held by twins in Oregon, who were born in 2022 from embryos frozen 30 years earlier.⠀
