Optimum, a telecommunications company, polled 2-thousand U.S. adults with home Internet service about the amount of time they spend watching, shopping and scrolling every day. And it’s eploding! 2 years ago the survey showed the average American was spending just under 7 hours a day. Today it's over 10 hours!
- The average American spends almost half their day online.
- We’re on the Web for an average of more than 10 hours daily, including 5.4-hours for “the three B’s”- browsing, bills and buying.
- The biggest things people do online include:
- Browsing (79%)
- Paying bills (77%)
- Checking out social media (73%)
- Shopping (72%)
- Doing work assignments (37%)
- And finishing school work (20%)
- On top of that, we spend another five hours streaming videos, movies and shows.
- More than half (55%) prefer to stream shows and movies on their TV, while 40% would rather use their mobile phones.
- In general, most respondents use their phones or computers for the majority of what they do on the Internet, but 44% do it from their TV.
