KRCR-TV tells the story of a gamer from Tennessee who was playing an online game with kids in CA that he didn't know. He overheard a 14- and 15-year-old discussing a school attack that one had recently backed out of. He told the other gamers that it sounded cool and even asked if they could tell him more about it. They told him they were rescheduling and this time the kid had promised he was going to go through with it. They even sent him pics of themselves in the attire they planned to wear on the day of the school shooting.
The TN gamer acted impressed and played for a little longer with them to not raise suspicion. Then he tracked down the phone number for the Tehama County Sheriff's office. He sent them the photo and the police were able to track down the 2 teens. They executed a search warrant on a home in Cottonwood. There they found bombs, firearms, a manifesto detailing plans for the attack, and a hit list of more than 100 people.
Sheriff Dave Kain said "I’d like to celebrate this young man out of Tennessee—this young hero, and focus the attention of this event on what it deserves to be: that this young man had the courage and heroic instincts to call our agency and notify us in order to mitigate any possible threat to our citizens, and particularly our young people. Sheriff Kain said he hopes the teen will take him up on his offer come forward so he can be properly recognized and receive an award for his courageous act.
