On Friday, a Michigan State Police trooper found about $5-thousand in cash laying in the middle of the road in Monroe. With no indication who the money might belong to, the trooper contacted a nearby bank and discovered that someone had recently withdrawn that amount. He attempted to contact the individual, but they initially thought the calls were a scam. Eventually the trooper was able to convince the person that the situation was legitimate.
The rightful owner, who’d unknowingly dropped the cash from their pants pocket after leaving the bank, was relieved to have it returned. According to the Michigan State Police report, the money was successfully reunited with the owner after confirming the withdrawal details.
The Michigan State Police are taking the opportunity to remind the public about the importance of remaining cautious but also open to legitimate communications from law enforcement. They’re calling the successful return of the lost money an example of positive community service.
