Secret Santa Trying To Save Christmas For NC Hurricane Victims

An anonymous philanthropist has been spreading holiday cheer in Avery County, North Carolina. The community was destroyed by Hurricane Helene in September. The Secret Santa has been helping people like Jamie Guinn, who lost his wife, Melissa, when their home was destroyed by a mudslide. Jamie and their eight-year-old son were spared. Santa has paid off Jamie's medical bills and gave him $5000 towards his new home.

He's also been handing out $100 bills to folks on the street.

He tells CBS News he has budgeted about 100,000 to give to the people there. He says we can help these people even if you don't have much to give. “The real gift for these people is that you haven’t been forgotten about. That we do know you’re there, and we do care.”
