Near Tragedy Averted At Panthers Game

An amazing game was played Sunday in Charlotte where the Panthers fought back and converted a 2 minute conversion to tie the game against the defending Super Bowl champs. However there was a little over a minute left and MVP Patrick Mahomes led his team down the field for a game winning field goal as time expired. There were thousands of Chiefs fans in attendance including a boy I'm going to guess around 8 years old. He's wearing Chiefs player Nick Bolton's jersey but as players were leaving the field he clearly yells out Tershawn as in Chiefs Defensive Lineman Tershawn Wharton.

Tershawn has a habit of throwing his game worn gloves to a Chiefs fan after every game. The boy reaching out to ask for the gloves loses his balance and tumbles over. It's probably an 8 foot drop to the field but Tershawn pushed a guard who had his back to the falling boy, out of the way and caught him as his head was touching the ground. A millisecond later may have meant a broken neck for the child.

Chiefs running back Carson Steele was also right there and checked on the child to make sure he was okay. He told a reporter that the only person who could have saved the boy was Tershawn. No one else could have gotten there in time and few are strong enough to catch 80 pounds without it pulling them forward. Had he fell forward he may have compounded any facial or head injuries by landing his weight with full pads on the boy.

I heard from from one of my friends who read this post that the boy in the video is his nephew Andy Radzavicz. He had gotten some gloves the day before from Gamecock players after the Wofford game. Glad you're doing well Andy!
