An unnamed 10-year-old boy in Shawano County, Wisconsin knew he was in trouble so he called 911. He explained to the emergency services operator that he couldn't figure out how to do his decimal math homework. "And no one in my family seems good at it either. I don't want to fail and I don't know who else to call".
Deputy Chase Mason was dispatched in response to the call and although he admitted in his report that he was “not overly proficient when it comes to math,” he worked with the student to solve the problems. Together, they tackled the homework, turning the unexpected call into a successful collaboration.
Before leaving, Deputy Mason gave the boy a business card and reminded him to use the non-emergency line the next time he needs help with his homework.
Fox 11 reports that Deputy Mason thinks that was one of the most important calls he's responded to in a while. "Making sure kids understand that the police are here to protect and serve the community is going to help future generations want to partner with us rather than fear us".
