Passenger Becomes A Hero Unexpectedly

A small twin-engine Beechcraft King Air 90 plane was flying from Henderson Executive Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Monterey Regional Airport in California with just the pilot and 1 unnamed passenger.

The pilot experienced a medical emergency mid-flight and passed out. As the plane began to fall towards a massive subdivision of over 1000 homes the passenger scrambled into the pilots chair and pulled back on the controls like he had seen in the movies. He then put on the headset and frantically started asking for help.

Ground control explained that he himself would have to perform an emergency landing. CBS reports that the untrained pilot was successful in flying to, and then landing the plane, at Meadows Field Airport in Bakersfield, California. Firefighters from the Kern Fire Department responded to the emergency, dispatching emergency vehicles to meet the plane after it safely touched down and said they were shocked at how smoothly the plane came down.

The pilot was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and the passenger didn’t suffer any injuries from the incident. The FAA didn’t disclose the identities of the passenger or pilot and will be investigating the incident further.

This is a video of a young pilot making their first attempt at flying at landing the Beechcraft King Air 90 so you can see what it takes.
