KTLV-TV reports that in the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Jacksonville, Texas, the second annual “Neighbors Helping Neighbors Day” took place on Saturday. Residents came together to lend a hand to those in need, assisting with small home repairs and landscaping tasks that some neighbors found challenging to tackle alone.
One of the beneficiaries of the neighborly event was Lueanne Williams, who had her back door replaced. “I’m just overjoyed,” she says. A 50-year resident of the neighborhood, Williams is no stranger to helping out, saying, “I’m a volunteer myself. Me and my neighbors, we volunteer and help out other organizations to make our community better.”
The community event also focused on neighborhood cleanup, setting up a free dumpster for neighbors to use at a nearby park. Jacksonville City Council member Letitia Horace emphasized the collaborative nature of the event, encouraging neighbors to work with the homeowners, not for them. “Who among us in life hasn’t needed a hand up,” Horace says, “That’s exactly what we are here to do today, just give our neighbors a hand up.”
