A principal in Texas wanted to see his graduating seniors and celebrate with them, so he got in the car and spent days making home visits. Virdie Montgomery, principal of Wylie High School, spent 80 hours over 12 days driving 800 miles to get to the homes of all 612 students in the class of 2020.
He says he was motivated to make the individual visits after looking at the calendar and seeing how many events these seniors are missing because of the coronavirus. Montgomery wore a face mask for protection and snapped selfies with the students, which he posted on social media. He also gave each of them a Snickers bar and told them that one day they’d look back on school being cancelled and “snicker.”
“Never has one lame joke been delivered so many times as my Snicker joke was delivered,” the principal posted on Facebook. “I just love our kids and they have awesome families I have found.”
