Armed Vigilantes Enforce Coronavirus Stay At Home Order

The Press Herald reports that a group of armed vigilantes in Maine decided to help a couple of out-of-towners make the decision to self-quarantine. A half dozen men with rifles pointed at a home stood guard while several other men with chain saws cut down a large tree on Friday on the Maine island of Vinalhaven and dragged it across the driveway of the rental home of two construction workers from New Jersey.

Representative Genevieve McDonald said that the men, who had lived in the area since September, went to the mainland and were targeted by locals over their license plates when they returned. McDonald said, "There were words between them and some locals about them continuing to work with the locals saying they felt threatened by the out of stater's".

The men inside called the cops but the group had vanished by the time the authorities responded. McDonald added, "Now is not the time to develop or encourage an 'us vs. them' mentality. Targeting people because of their license plates will not serve any of us well."
