We've all heard about stores being short on toilet paper but in California apparently some people really couldn't find any and it's led to a serious problem! Officials in Redding, California are warning where residents caused a major sewage spill by flushing cut-up T-shirts they had used instead of toilet paper. Authorities say the T-shirts clogged pumps at a sewer station, causing a pump to back up. Officials warn that sewer backups can cause fecal matter to back up into toilets, sinks, and tubs-and during the COVID-19 outbreak, it could be tougher than usual to get the problem fixed immediately.
The city of Redding has now launched an official slogan for people wiping with anything other than toilet paper. "Bag it, don't flush it!"
