WalletHub looked at all 50 states to determine which are the best and worst to retire to. They judged each state based on 47 key indicators including things like affordability, health-related factors and overall quality of life.

Now we we've all heard jokes about Florida being filled with old people, and they're funny, because they are true.

Ten Best States For Retirement

  1. Florida
  2. Colorado
  3. New Hampshire
  4. Utah
  5. Wyoming
  6. Delaware
  7. Virginia
  8. Wisconsin
  9. Idaho
  10. Iowa

South Carolina is ranked 18th. 4th in affordability only behind #1 Alabama, #2 Florida & #3 Texas. However they ranked the quality of life way down at 39th between Rhode Island and West Virginia.

On the flipside, retirees are going to want to stay clear of Kentucky, which is dead last and scores only a 41.89, and is near the bottom for quality of life and healthcare. As for the overall least affordable state to retire in, that would be New York.
