Security experts are recommending caution when dating documents in the new year. Instead of abbreviating the year as "20," they say write out the entire thing: "2020." That's to keep scammers from altering the documents, for example, altering 20 to 2018 or 2021 or some other year that starts with 20.
It could have implications on everything from contracts to checks.Ira Rheingold, executive director of the national Association of Consumer Advocates gives the perfect example: "Say you agreed to make payments beginning on 1/15/20. The bad guy could theoretically establish that you began owing your obligation on 1/15/2019, and try to collect additional $$$."
