Uber Driver Buys Baby Clothes For Rider With Sick Infant

Nikki Ihus, was told the baby she was pregnant with had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Which is a hole in the diaphragm that allowed the organs in his stomach to move up into his chest. She traveled from Kansas City to St Petersburg FL because she was told that the John Hopkins hospital there would give her son the best chance of surviving. She did deliver a boy whom she named John Henry and has been sitting by her baby’s hospital bed.

When Nikki needed to go buy some new baby clothes and supplies for him, she called an Uber and was picked up by a driver named Belinda. Nikki says she was just overwhelmed with everything and was so alone that she just unloaded all her feelings on Belinda as they rode to the store. Belinda says “I believe everyone gets in my car for a reason and not just a ride." So not only did Belinda offer a sympathetic ear, but when they arrived she went inside with Nikki and bought 30 pieces of clothing for the baby!

“For this stranger to go completely out of her way – stop what she was doing and stop making money – to come be with me for a couple of hours while we shopped together, that was just incredible. Ultimately, this act of kindness was a much needed bright spot during a dark time in my life."

Belinda and Nikki have exchanged numbers so Nikki now has a friend in Florida, and John Henry has a Godmother!
