America has never been safer than it is right now according to John Roman, a senior fellow at the University of Chicago. There were 369 violent crimes committed in 2018 for every 100,000 Americans. That's the lowest violent crime rate in the United States in more than three decades! But there are still cities that have more violent crime than others.
Here's the list of 50 most dangerous cities in America. I noticed my hometown of Hartford is still a violent town coming in as the 22nd most dangerous city in America. Another city from Connecticut that I lived in for about a decade made the list. When the crack epidemic hit around 1990 New Haven became the murder capitol of the country per capital. Hence the name "pistol wavin New Haven". Today it's cleaned itself up to number 47.
When it comes to South Carolina there's only one town on the most dangerous list and it's North Charleston at number 37. With a violent crime rate of 921 incidents per 100,000 people, North Charleston is the only city in the Carolinas to rank among the most dangerous in the United States.
