Kelsey Farris, a 12 year old patient at Children’s Hospital New Orleans has been hospitalized more than 20 times in her young life. Right after she was born, Kelsey was diagnosed with a severe form of sickle cell disease. Last year she had an allogeneic stem cell transplant, and then a bone marrow transplant. Now her blood work shows no signs of sickle cell disease and she is about to released from the hospital for hopefully the last time!
The staff has come to know her very well through the years and wanted to recognize what a great patient she's been.
One of the nurses said "Despite her incredible health struggles Kelsey is known for her bright smile and witty dad jokes. Kelsey's positivity lights up our clinic each day she's here, and her artistic talents bring creativity to every visit."
Like a lot of 12 year olds, Kelsey's favorite artist is Taylor Swift who happens to have a concert in New Orleans at the Superdome October 26th. So the staff all pitched in and got her a pair of tickets and presented them with a little parade and confetti!
Kelsey says "These people have become family to me. I will always love them and will certainly visit, but that's it. No more procedures for me!" :)
