Bill Buda has been a mail carrier for 31 years and served the same neighborhood for more than 24 of them. He’s gotten to know everyone on his route! He made it his business to know every family on his route. Those people appreciated it. So when Bill let them know his last day was coming up they wanted to show him that he has meant a lot to them. Many asked him if he could work one extra day, a Saturday, so most people could be home to say goodbye.
His family decided to walk the 12.2 mile route with him on that day. His daughter, Alexa, created a video documenting the send-off the neighborhood gave her dad.
We see Bill delivering mail to different houses and being met with sweet notes, drawings, balloons, yard signs and displays, and lots of hugs. He was blown away by the heartwarming show of support. “Man, I guess for 24 and a half years on this route, I really must have done something right to have this,” he says of the neighborhood farewell. “So it was fantastic.”
