Shane Condon landed a job as the assistant store leader at Kroger in Burleson, Texas. He had just moved to the area from Colorado.
On his first day he was getting a tour of the store from his new boss when Ray Choate, collapsed.
Shane hadn't met Ray yet but he was the first to get to him and quickly realized he was having a heart attack.
Another employee called 911, and the operator explained to Shane how to perform CPR. For almost 5 minutes Shane worked on Ray until paramedics arrived.
Ray, a 21-year veteran of the store, has no recollection of the incident. "The breaker blew a fuse, so I went out to get some more tools and walked back in and started feeling weak, and that's the last I know. I woke up in the hospital."
Doctors confirmed that the CPR was crucial in saving his life.
Shane says "I was really, really worried that I had done more harm than good because I had never done that before, but when I found out the news that he had survived, I just thanked God,"
Wednesday was when the 2 men met for the first time. Shane was presented with an AllSafe Angel Award for his heroic actions. Both men say they are grateful to know the other and are looking forward to developing an amazing friendship.
