In the Summer of 2018, Orlando Police Officer Kevin Valencia responded to a hostage situation, was shot and ultimately died.
When his young children Kaleb and Kolton, returned to school after summer break, Kevin's former squad filled in for him, walking them to school and helping them start the year on a positive note.

They also joined the family when a portion of Kirkman Road was renamed in honor of Valencia’s dedication and service to the community.
The Orlando Police weren’t the only first responders to show up for the first day of school. Firefighters from the Orlando Fire Department joined in similar support by giving a warm send-off to the daughter of a firefighter who’s currently battling cancer in the hospital.
