KABC-TV reports that crime has been soaring in a certain community in LA known as Tarzana. They have had 9 home invasions in July alone. Resident Julian Harper-Smith lives there and says he has installed about 40 cameras not only on his property but several other homes who gave him permission. About 10 PM he saw multiple men leaving an SUV putting on masks and heading towards one of his neighbors home. As they were jumping the wall of the property he activated bright lights and an alarm. The intruders froze and seemed to be considering their options. He quickly approached the property and fired his only weapon, a paint gun. He says the discharge sounds like a real gun. When they heard it they scrambled back over the wall. As they started to take off he fired several more shots hoping that with paint splattered on their vehicle it would help police find the suspects.
So far LA Police haven't found them and request citizens not put themselves in harm way to stop robberies. Julian says he will ignore that request and continue to do what he can to keep his street safe.
