A new survey from ResumeBuilder.com suggests millions of Americans are planning on quitting their job in the next few months.
It asks 1,000 full-time U.S. workers about if they’re thinking of leaving their jobs anytime soon and finds:
- 28% say they’re likely to quit this year, including 21% who are “somewhat” likely and 7% who are “highly likely” to quit.
- Gen Z and young millennials are more likely to leave their jobs than older respondents.
- In the 18-to 24-year-old age group, 37% say they’re likely to quit this year and 35% of 25-to 34-year-olds say the same.
- The most common reasons people give for considering quitting are low pay (56%), and overly-stressful work (43%).
- While 66% of those planning to quit this year are currently applying for new jobs, 32% plan to start soon, and 10% are frustrated enough with their current job that they’ll quit even if they don’t have their next job secured.
- The service/hospitality industry has the highest percentage of respondents who are likely to quit in 2024 with 35%, followed by the tech industry (34%) and finance industry (34%).
I'm just doing rough math but the May jobs report listed 133 million Americans work full time jobs. Even if the survey way over estimates and 28% isn't the number, but the far lower 7% of highly likey who actually quit their jobs, that's over 9 million folks quitting over the next 5 months. For comparison the "Great Resignation" that lasted all of 2021 and 2022 saw a grand total of 4.5 million people quit.
