Chris Poa has been delivering mail in Hudson, Ohio for 29 years.
One of people he sees regularly is a 91 year old woman who likes to visit with him on her porch. When he noticed recently that he hadn’t seen her in a few days, he grew concerned and decided to check in on her. He knocked on the door and got no answer. He then started trying to look through her windows.
Chris, saw the tip of her foot through a window, and immediately called 911. Firefighters arrived and found the woman lying on the floor, unable to get up after a fall. She’d been there for two days, but thanks to her mailman’s vigilance and quick action, the woman was rescued in time and taken to the hospital, where she is now recovering.
To honor Poa’s dedication and heroism, he was awarded the first-ever Hudson EMS Lifesaving Award. The woman's family put out a statement thanking Chris for saving her life and that he’s a special man that’s responsible for their mom/grandmother/great grandmother being alive today.
