Odd Pairing Of Best Friends Melt Communities Heart

Often times we see pictures of videos of animals that aren't associated in anyway other than current proximity becoming friends like a dog and a horse, or a pig and a duck. But it's especially sweet when it's humans.

In Skokie IL we only know her first name is Janine. She's 98 and originally from Viloof, Poland. In 1939 the Nazi's took her home and forced her family into an early form of concentration camp which was a factory for the Nazi war machine. Her father died shortly after arriving. Her mother and Janine were then moved to the fields and worked a farm all day under Nazi guards watch. This went on for 6 years. In 1945 as the Nazi's were defeated Janine and her mom had an opportunity to move to the US. They settled in IL and she's loved America ever since.

Also in Skokie is a 13 year old boy named Dillon. He is Jewish and had been studying the persecution of Jews through the ages and was particularly fascinated with how that evolved leading up to WWII. That led him to a visit to the the Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie. He loved it and became a volunteer there. He was the youngest person there. The oldest volunteer happens to be Janine. After a few discussions they found each others company to be very pleasant. Today they're best friends!

CBS recently profiled their friendship and how the community is celebrating it.

Now they work their shifts together at the front desk. The rest of the staff loves them! Volunteer Courtney Sturgeon said "They have such a special friendship. Everyone who works here, they see that too. and I mean, people have been talking about them, 'Have you seen Janine and Dhilan today?"
