Community Shaves Their Heads To Support Cancer Research

On March 17th 2000 a group of 19 local business leaders in NYC met at a pub after getting pledges for how much friends would give them to shave their heads. The money would go to childhood cancer research. They raised over 100 grand that day and launched a national event. Since it was on St Patrick's Day they tried to tie that in with their head shaving and created their own saint to name it after. Hence St Baldrick's. As the event has grown nationally people host events at all times of the year.

The Broad Ripple Haverford Little League has been doing an event in Indianapolis for the past 6 years. Saturday was their biggest ever!! The Mayor agreed to appear and promote it and the community really rallied behind the kids, and coaches. When it was all over they were shocked to find they had raised $120,000!

Mayor Hogsett said. “This is a great day; this is a great league and they have been committed to raising money for cancer research. I think it teaches valuable lessons to kids of all ages, including me, about the importance of other things in life.”
