A Toyota pickup crashed into a canal in North Lauderdale FL.
13 year old pals Tony Cooper and Elijah Hodge, saw the crash and rushed to help. Tony tells WSVN-TV “We saw it crash and thought they might be in big trouble so we rushed over and took off our shoes and we literally jumped on the hood. The guy was passed out and the truck was sinking so we reached in took off the seat belt and then we pulled them out. I started screaming at him because he was so heavy. We [were] screaming and pulling him and he woke up. Then we helped him get out of the car and then we pulled him onto the grass.”
For their part, both boys are pleased with being able to help the man and one local resident who heard about the incident on the news gave each of them $250, expressing pride in their actions. North Lauderdale Mayor Samson Borgelin also praised the teens for their bravery and says that he plans to reach out to the boys and their families to formally recognize them for their heroism.
