5 year old Jordan Marotta was born without a left hand. He hasn't let that stop him from chasing his dreams. He's one of the top students in his karate class and even learned how to play baseball with one hand.
Dr Daniel Green at Open Bionics in Manhattan explained that Jordan was the perfect candidate to become the first person in the world to receive an Iron Man bionic arm. The bionic arm, which Jordan calls his "hero" arm, uses electrodes and sensors to detect muscle contractions, allowing for natural hand and finger movements. It runs on a 14-hour, rechargeable battery they can charge while he sleeps. It took a month to make it.
There have been other bionic arms created but usually for older patients. This is the first one created to resemble Iron Man. As Jordan grows he will need new arms and may opt for more natural looking arms then, but for now he is absolutely thrilled to look like a superhero. His mom said as they left the Doctors office he kept trying to hail taxi's with his new arm!
