Danny Fitch, a former Kentucky coal miner who’s been battling type 1 Diabetes since he was child and is now desperately in need of a kidney. WKYT-TV reports that his tiny church in Paintsville had every member tested and none were a match. So they organized a social media push to try and get more folks to get tested.
One young lady saw the post and went to get tested. When Cherish Strunk discovered that she was a match she reached out to the Fitch family with the good news she had one unique request. Could we hold off the surgery till I go on Spring Break? She didn't want to miss classes at Somerset Community College.
Of course they were thrilled and their doctor said waiting another 3 weeks wouldn't be a problem for Danny.
Danny's wife Teresa says “As far as we’re concerned, she’s part of us now. The love of our family, we think the same of her. To us, Cherish has got what we call a servant’s heart. It takes somebody very special to do that and I thank God that she did. I thank God that she reached out when she did and we just thank her for everything and hope and pray that she always follows her heart like she has this time.”
