An un named 52 year old man in Staffordshire, England was praying for some financial help for his oldest child to pay for university. He felt compelled to go to his office and look through his old books. And sitting there was a forgotten copy of the first Harry Potter book.
This particular edition, one of only 200 uncorrected proof copies of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” is unique for its plain white and yellow cover.
Even bigger the cover got the author's name wrong! Published as "J A Rowling" instead of J K Rowling.
He used to go to used book stores and look for bargains. He bought this copy before the book was actually available in stores so there was no hype on it. He just thought it looked like an interesting read and he believes it was part of a deal where you got 2 books for a pound.
He did some research on original Harry Potter books and found that Hansons Auctioneers recently sold a similar version but it had the correct spelling of Rowlings name.
Last night Hanson's sold this book for $13,900!
