Sunday afternoon around 3:30 in the Upper East Side a 24-year-old woman was targeted by the thieves.
The doorman, who wishes to remain anonymous, says he heard a noise and then saw the woman pinned against the building lobby glass, pleading for help. The attackers who were a man and a woman attempted to confuse the doorman by claiming the woman had stolen a phone. “So, I stepped back because now I thought, I am aiding the thief?
That moment of distraction is when they grabbed her phone and ran.
The doorman himself expressed shock at the boldness of the thieves, noting that they continued their robbery even though there were several bystanders. Although they did manage to snatch the woman's phone and escape, they didn’t get her purse and the residents of the building are calling their doorman a hero for his bravery and quick thinking.
