Tesla, Volvo, Porsche, Audi and some Volkswagen EVs already come without AM radio. Drivers of Ford’s 2023 F-150 Lightning electric pickup will not have AM radio with their stereo package. EV manufacturers cite electromagnetic interference that causes some noise as the reason they are no longer installing them.
There are currently over 6000 AM stations with 40 millions Americans listening to sports, news, traffic, and more. The more part would be the federal government uses AM radio as their best way to disperse emergency information. As in a lot of emergencies, the internet, cell service and cable are out. As for FM their reach is far less than the hundred of miles AM can reach. But if those AM stations don't have access in cars they will lose advertisers and if they lose advertisers they will eventually shut down.
So it's not just about sports broadcasts it's about keeping Americans safe.
To let Congress know that AM radio is important, saves lives, and should stay in cars and trucks all across America.
