The Original Tooth Fairy Poll conducted by Delta Dental, released to coincide with the upcoming National Tooth Fairy Day on August 22nd, the value of a lost tooth is on the rise but the percentage of kids who receive money is dropping.
The average cash gift for a tooth this year is $5.36, the highest amount in the poll’s 24-year history. It’s up from last year’s previous peak of $4.70. It’s also more than quadruple the amount since the Original Tooth Fairy Poll began, when it was just $1.30 a tooth.
And with all that money at stake, there are actually some kids who won’t wait around for a tooth to fall out.18% of kids actually pulled their own tooth.
The survey finds 80% of the time the Tooth Fairy will leave a kid money rather than a physical gift.
The Tooth Fairy visited 79% of homes with kids ages six to 12 who lost a tooth. That's a historic low as it's typically around 90%
