Tim Ratcliff, owner of Shin Japanese restaurant, was shocked to see a homeless man sucker punch an elderly customer sitting on the patio in front of his Hollywood restaurant. The suspect then took the elderly man’s cellphone and wallet and started to casually walk away.
The whole incident was caught on surveillance cameras and shows Ratcliff quickly going after the assailant. The man sees that Ratcliff is following him and picks up his pace just before the restaurateur grabs him and wrestles him to the ground. "I took him down and just waited there until the police arrived," he says.
Ratcliff’s girlfriend and another witness help him for the nine minutes it takes for police to arrive. "I’m not gonna lie, the adrenaline was a lot at that point,” Ratcliff recalls. “And afterwards it was exhausting. It felt like I had worked out the next day for quite a bit." But when asked how he’d handle a situation like this in the future, he answers, “I'd happily do it again.”
