On April 18th, Khalia Carter was seriously injured when her car was hit by a drunk driver. The accident left the Fort Myers teen with a traumatic brain injury and a total loss of motor skills, including the ability to walk. Doctors told her folks that she may never regain her motor skills. Her mom said if Khalia had anything to do with it she would.
Khalia spent every day in PT. Her doctors said they have never seen anyone work this hard.
5 weeks after the accident Khalia shocked everyone when she walked across the stage at the Fort Myers High School graduation on her own. She got her diploma just like she wanted and put her senior quote into action: “If you put your mind to it and work for it, you will do it."
