Gayle Stewart’s family reported her missing on the morning of February 14th. The 64-year-old woman was last seen at about 8am at her house in the Caughlin Ranch area of Reno, Nevada.
Her family organized a search party to try and locate her and her son enlisted the help of some friends for the search. One of the friends was praying while he searched and felt led to venture off the road over a steep embankment thinking she might have fallen down there and found her 400 feet off the road clinging to a tree on the side of the steep, wet, rocky slope. The Fire Chief said; "I told the young man that found her, I said that’s truly a lifesaver. With the rain and the snow coming tonight she’s already been exposed for the better part of 12 hours. It could have been a very different outcome had he not found her when he did.”
Over two dozen rescuers descended on the area at 9:15pm and within thirty minutes were able to pull Stewart to safety using a rope system and a basket stretcher. She appeared to be uninjured albeit a little cold, but she was transported to a nearby hospital to get checked out. Stewart was later released from the hospital and is reported to be in good health.
