"Potentially Hazardous" Asteroid Enters Earth Orbit December 11th

An asteroid bigger than the Eiffel Tower is going to shoot through the Earth’s orbit at over 14,000 miles per hour on December 11. NASA says that Asteroid 4660 Nereus is 1,082 feet in size and is coming close enough to the planet to be placed in the “potentially hazardous” category.

Don’t panic just yet, though, because even though it’s passing very close to us compared to most asteroids, NASA is expecting the space rock to stay over two million miles away from us, about 10 times the distance between Earth and the moon.
