A high school principal in Florida went above and beyond for his class of 2021. Matanzas High School principal Jeff Reaves spent the last few months of the school year creating personalized notes for each graduating senior.
He read through transcripts, emails and used his personal memories to write the 459 letters. And when the teens arrived at graduation, they found their note on their seat before receiving their diplomas. Reaves says the process was good for him because it gave him the chance to learn more about each and every student. And he wanted to do something special because of the impact COVID had on their last two years of school.
“I was doing my part to help them feel connected as a community and have their high school experience be positive,” he explains. “I want to be positive for our students, especially in a time where there’s a lot of negativity and turmoil in the world.”
