Police in Philadelphia say Hatixhe Halite filed a police report after a man took $500 from her with a promise to fix her roof, but never showed up to work.
The officers who met with the 70-year-old woman couldn’t stop thinking about her situation, so they found a way to help. First, one officer patched Halite’s roof to keep the rain out ahead of some recent storms, then another found the Clarence E. Smith Roofing Company, which volunteered to provide supplies and labor to put on a new roof.
“Every time she came into the station my heart broke,” says officer Cynthia Padua. "I was willing to get up on the roof and do it myself to help Halite out", but thanks to the roofing company, she didn’t have to. Clarence E. Smith said “Through no fault of her own, she’s suffering every time it rains and it leaks. Come out and just take care of it for her”.
