Stars & Stripes shares the story of a group of Marines who saved an accident victims life.
She was riding a scooter in Washington DC on I Street when she was hit by a car and became pinned underneath. This is less than a block from the Marine barracks.
Cpl. Denny Bohne says “I was just going to the chow hall to get some breakfast and we hear a Marine call out, ‘A woman was just run over by a car’”.
Several Marines then rushed to the car. 2 of them lift the car to try and get some pressure off of her Cpl Bohne & Sgt Belko went in the trunk to get a jack, while another Marine got a jack from a civilian’s trunk. Together they used the jacks to lift the car up off the woman. By the time EMTs arrived, she was already out and they could immediately begin life saving procedures. Firefighter Leo Ruiz says “their actions were integral to saving her life".
“The immediate feeling was just relief,” says Corporal Bohne. “Once I informed the guys, they all just felt the exact same -- absolutely relieved that she made it out okay and we were just happy to get the good news.”
