Northview Church in Carmel, Indiana wanted to show the love of Jesus to people around their community. They told their congregation that one of the top contributors to divorce is debt. The number one form of debt is currently medical debt. So what if we could help families who were debt. We'll find people who can't pay their debt and then have it forgiven for them because of someone else's sacrifice.
They partnered with RIP Medical Debt, which buys debt for pennies on the dollar, to help with their good deed. By the time RIP is able to buy the debt, the hospitals and debt collecting agencies have been trying for a long time to set up payment plans but these people aren't in a position to even make small payments.
The church was able to get 6000 families out of debt totaling close to 8 million dollars!
I think this is a wonderful way to introduce the gospel to people. We owe a debt that we can never pay. Someone else made a massive sacrifice and because of their sacrifice, we are set free! Thank you Jesus!
And lots of churches are doing this. Here's a church in Orlando that paid off 7.2 million, another in Arkansas that paid off 3 million, another in Grand Rapids with 1.8 million, Here's one in Columbia MO that paid off 43 million!
