Great-Grandma Goes Skydiving To Help Veterans

A great-grandmother from Washington is taking to the sky to raise money for a cause close to her heart. To celebrate her 73rd birthday,Shirley Romig went skydiving, but she wasn’t just jumping out of a plane for the thrill, she did it to help Paws Assisting Veterans (PAVE), an organization that pairs service dogs with veterans in need.

It was Romig’s fifth skydiving experience and she says the thrill is “the most amazing thing” she’s ever done. But this was the first time she’s doing it to help the nonprofit that trains service dogs and matches them to the vets who need them. She’s hoping to raise $12,000 online for PAVE and is using the jump to raise awareness.

"I've seen what the dogs do for veterans and it really, it changes them. It just helps them," Romig says. "What it does for them is – it saves their lives."

If you want to help Romig reach her goal or to find out more about her cause, check outher crowdfunding campaign here.
