A nine-year-old New Jersey boy is helping folks stay warm in the winter weather by giving away free coats to anyone in need. Sandro Cunningham came up with the idea three years ago, when he was only six, after watching the news and seeing someone less fortunate who didn’t have a warm coat.
So he started collecting coats and his dad, Edward , built a rack to hang them on and they put it up on the street outside the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. He calls it Sandro’s Coat Rack and his father helps him get out there early to hang the coats up so any stranger who needs one can take it and get warm. They promote the project on social media and more than a thousand people have liked Sandro's Coat Rack's Facebook page so far.
After giving away hundreds of coats, Sandro would love for his project to inspire others to do something like it. “And the best part about it,” he says, “anyone can do it.”
