"I said, 'Come stay with me. Come stay at my house until you can go back to yours,'" said Jaret Hucks. Huck estimates that he's given away about $50,000 in free rooms but he just wanted to give back to those in need. He even suspended the no pet policy. So far he has welcomed dogs, a tortoise and even a rescued baby squirrel named Mr. Squeakers.
Jaret explains, "Love thy neighbor, right? That's what you're supposed to do. My mama taught me that a long time ago."
Once the word spread that Jaret was heping displaced families other people started volunteering to help with the housekeeping while others have donated food, ice, diapers, and clothes.
The Innkeeper said his greatest reward for has been the handwritten thank you letters he receives from the kids, many written in crayon.
