Let's celebrate us! You and your friends and family are the most charitable people currently on the planet! According to Giving.org U.S. charities surged to an estimated $410.02 billion in 2017. That's the first time any country has ever given over $400 billion in a year. The vast majority of that cash (286.65 billion) was given by people, not corporations or foundations)
Now because we're a large country of 300 million residents compared to the European countries which are usually a quarter or less our size, some people might poo poo the largeness of our charitable giving. But as a study from 2017 showed Americans tradititionally give away over 10% of their nations Gross Domestic Product. There's only 3 other countries that give over 5% and none of them over 6. (Netherlands, Canada, and the United Kingdom)
And this doesn't include the 51 billion that the US government provided in foreign aid. So when people tell you that the US is a bad place now you'll know the truth. The world is a far better place because of our generosity.
