Have you ever asked for something but received something else? And then because you're a nice person you don't fuss about it you just thank them and go on without the thing you asked for? Well that usually isn't a lot of fun. But that scenario ended a lot different for a New Jersey mom of two decided to take her chances on a $1 scratch-off lottery ticket, but the clerk accidentally gave her a $10 “Set for Life” ticket by mistake. Oksana Zaharov felt bad, paid the extra 9 bucks and went home with it.
She was actually using it as a bookmark for a few weeks before scratching it off.
When the Edgewater woman finally did scratch it, she couldn’t believe her eyes. Zaharov won a $5-million prize on a ticket she didn’t even mean to buy. "I never win anything," she said. "I was sure the ticket was fake."
Oksana receive 19 annual payments of $260,000 ($172,068 after taxes) and one additional payment of $60,000 (net $39,708).
She’s planning to splurge on a big family getaway to the Bahamas and then let her children benefit from her winnings with a loan-free college education.
