A couple in Maine spread Christmas cheer for dozens of families when they stopped by a Toys R Us store and paid off $10,000 of layaway orders. Store manager Jay Roes tells Channel 13 that the anonymous couple’s generosity pays off the balance on about a hundred layaway accounts.
Roes says that his employees love being able to tell customers they no longer have a balance due on their layaway accounts and can pick up their orders without paying anything more. He says the customers who have gotten that good news are seeing their Christmas spirit soar.
"It's a good feeling for my staff to be able to do that for people and it's amazing that someone is that generous to take care of people that obviously might need a little help," Roes says. And these layaway angels aren’t done yet. Now they say they want to match donations other people make to the layaway accounts at Toys R Us. There's still about $25,000 left in layaways at the store.
