Woman sews inspiring blankets for the homeless

Back in 2015, Maribelle Pokonia made a New Year’s resolution to start collecting blankets and distributing them to the homeless in her community. But the Australian woman didn’t want to just warm their bodies, she wanted to warm their hearts and souls, too.

So she found messages of “hope, love, and empowerment” to stitch on the blankets, to serve as reminders for those down on their luck. She needlepoints the blankets with positive phrases like, “You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it,” and “Tough times never last, but tough people do.”

Pokonia has given away hundreds of her blankets of love to the homeless in Sydney so far. She hopes her messages inspire them and remind them someone out there cares for them.
